For both my younger and adult students, I like to start lessons with warm ups, then move to technique training, etude, finally to solo pieces, with each lesson including a brief review of the previous lesson. For beginning students, I start with teaching them about breathing, posture, and positioning of the instrument, so students can develop solid foundation, and good playing habits. Aim for 5 to 6 days of practice EVERY week. Consistency is key, even if it is only for 15 minutes! Whatever you do, make sure you practice right after your lesson AND the day following - retention will be 90%! When practicing, aim 3 times in a row flawlessly. I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with.  I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists.  For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques.
