I am a flute player of over 15 years with 8 years teaching experience who is passionate about providing quality lessons, especially to students who would not otherwise have access to them. I am a professional flautist and graduate of Berklee College of Music. Growing up, while I was blessed with a wonderful mentor on flute, I knew a lot of people who never had the chance to take lessons. Prior to moving to Chicago, I ran a private flute studio out of my home for 6 years. I have also been on faculty at the Midwestern Music Academy, and was a clinician for the Blue Valley School District. Whilemy love of performinghas been a major motivator for me, my true passion is performing arts advocacy, education, and musical outreach. I have been involvedwith numerous non-profit organizations both in Chicago and Kansas City and have found that my greatest joy comes from sharing my love of music with others through education and outreach. I like to get to know the student as I am teaching so I create small breaks to get to know who I am teachign and their interest, so that I may taylor my lessons to the student. For beginning students I like to use essential elements books as a guide for their practice. For beginning students, I use standard method books, including Moyse, Taffanel-Gaubert, Rubank, and Suzuki. Once the student has demonstrated a sufficient grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire, always gauging their level so that I can provide them with a challenging and rewarding experience. For adults and intermediate to advanced flutists, I try to get sense for the student's level and how they are interested in growing, and tailor my methods and repertoire selections to that. Music has been a big part of my entire life. I began playing piano at the age of 5 and flute at the age of 10. I was involved in the music program in my church as a teenager singing in the youth choir and playing in the handbell choir.
