I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. Setting reachable goals every lesson helps a student feel like they are in control of their own success and builds their motivation to succeed. I believe it is important that the student learn to recognize their own accomplishments so that as they are practicing, they can begin to become the best judges of their own progress and get the most out of their lessons.
