For elementary students, I usually have them work out of Standard of Excellence books or Rubank Elementary method books and supplement them with fun popular music they enjoy to play. For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together. I focus on the individual more than anything else. I tailor my teaching style to each student.  When something clicks for them, I stick with it and adapt to keep the student engaged, interested, and passionate about music.  If I find a student is not fond of a certain book or solo, we change course together. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance focusing in Flute under the amazing Dr. Cobus du Toit at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For high schoolers and more advanced middle schoolers, I like to have them play solo flute pieces that fit with their ability level.
