I use several different method books for teaching. The books I typically use are Alfred's Basic Guitar, Mel Bay's beginner books as well as Hal Leonard's melody books. I teach beginner students the basics of how to properly hold their guitar, hand and finger placement, and simple note reading and chords. For more advanced students I teach theory and how they can apply it in order to be more creative. Read More

My method of teaching will both implement teaching students how to sight read but also more importantly how to play music by ear. I am very big on learning by ear because it is the way I learned music most of my life. For younger students I do want them to start learning how to sight read at a basic level because it will make it easier for them in the long run. Read More

My teaching style allows the student to progress at their own natural pace. My goal as a teacher is to provide the student with musical exercises, concepts, and challenges that match their individual musical tastes so he or she will be inspired to make the necessary steps to improve through practice. I have been teaching for more than 25 years and I have instructed students of many different ages and ability levels. My experience with music is now at 30+ years. I have worked as a private music tutor and have played with many local bands/musicians during that time. I've also done studio work with original acts, but I prefer performing live. When talking with young players or those who wish to become musicians my advice to them is to be patient, don't get discouraged and practice as much as possible! Read More

In Boston, I played lead guitar in a corporate cover band. Imagine being on the 50th floor of the Prudential Tower in Boston and having a corporate get-together. We had keys, bass, 3 guitars, and a drum set. We called ourselves The Consultones because we worked in actuarial consulting. We played classic rock and pop hits for corporate events. At a wedding I played alongside a cello and violin. Accompanying classical music pieces. Read More

In my opinion a big part of playing music is being creative, and a big part of being creative is having fun. When teaching I always make sure there is a positive environment that encourages learning and growth. I have found the best way for a student to learn and improve is by having so much fun playing that they can't put the instrument down. This excitement about music and learning is what I prioritize the most. Read More

I have played in many venues with many groups in Connecticut, Boston, New York City, and Portland, Oregon. Genres I enjoy include jazz, bossanova, classic rock, blues and pop. Genres I enjoy teaching include most anything that the student wants to learn. If students would like to perform a song in front of other peers, I offer opportunities for that as well in local venues; however, there's no pressure to perform in front of people unless the student wishes to!
