Teaching requires time and effort but it also needs to be fun, therefore my lessons have both components, while setting up short and long term goals we explore music in fun ways that allows for self expression and we stay focused by having a clear goal for every lesson. We will keep a journal where we will be recording our achievements, homeworks and general progress. We will use students ideas for songs they are interested in learning as well as some of my own suggestions for repertoire. Read More

For beginner students on drums I use Ted Reed's Syncopation and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone. These books provide a great foundation for every drummer and once we put together a great foundation our potential greatly increases. I also assign a great deal of listening for my students from all areas of music. For more advanced students we do use Syncopation and Stick Control as well but there are a number of other great resources such as The New Breed by Gary Chester or Creative Coordination by Keith Copeland. For beginners drummers I like to introduce them to rudiments. For aspiring orchestral players is always important to build a repertoire, this is a list of materials I use: 150 Rudimental Solos - Charlie Wilcoxon Bass Drum Technique - Ted Reed Portraits in Rhythm - Cirone Beyond bop drumming - John Ryley It all depends to what the students are interested in. For aspiring popular music performers the most valuable resource are recordings. Read More

For Beginners, the rudiments are essential. We start with that and don not even concentrate on learning how to read drum charts. We concentrate on STICKING and coordination and proper grip, without paying too much attention to a " proper grip". Everything is evaluated from stick size to hand size to hand form to posture. Posture is essential in this instrument as one is typically SITTING. We move onto the student's musical preference, so as to keep interest at its peak. Read More

I’m a freelance drummer, percussionist, and educator based in New York City. You can hear me playing drums and percussion for a wide range of Broadway shows, including Hamilton, Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, and Avenue Q. In the fall of 2016 I originated the drum book for the Off-Broadway show Ride The Cyclone. I can be heard on RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Trixie Mattel's debut EP "Two Birds" released in May 2017. I have been teaching drums for almost ten years and my intensions are to never stop. I have played drums pretty much my whole life and have been fortunate enough to take that around the world. Playing everything from casual gigs to professional musicals and recording sessions. I have toured around the United States and Europe playing music with numerous bands. Read More

To enhance the individual's experience I use background in music, current studies, and style preference to choose which methods might be best for the student. Younger students require more stock information and techniques such as Essential Elements, Alfred's drum book, or basic Fender guitar method for example. Adults, however, can take a more personal approach. Using an array of adult methods, or simply just finding books with your favorite songs seem to work the best when helping adult students learn.
