In my years of teaching experience in music, English as a second language, and biology, I have found that different students learn differently. Some do best learning by demonstration, others by reading sheet music, others through discussion and application. In general, I have found that when students are given individual focus and a lesson plan built upon their strengths, they excel! I make sure that, whether in individual or clinic style settings, I give attention to each student, work with them, and help them achieve their goals! Read More

Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I've taught in a myriad of environments. My earliest goes back to instructing marching band/indoor percussion programs. My most recent marching program was Fusion Drum Bugle Corps. My college studies helped me branch out musically, and thus I started dabbling in private instruction which I found very fulfilling. I was a graduate adjunct instructor at NYU, teaching primarily concert snare drum. Nowadays, I teach at private music studios (a la School of Rock) and am building up a studio of my own! Read More

I've had the great fortune of touring in the US, the UK and Asia and have been featured on a number of television performances. My group ensemble, et al. has pushed the boundaries of modern instrumental music. Read More

I am an intuitive teacher: I have learned how to observe my students, their moods, their energy levels, and adjust my lesson plan on the fly. For instance, one student has ADHD, which I manage by injecting exciting new rhythms for him to mimic when I see his attention wander. I then harness that renewed focus towards the original goal of the lesson, whether it’s learning a new time signature or a complex cross-rhythm. Read More

Custom Lesson Plans: In addition to using established methods, I also believe in creating custom lesson plans that are tailored to the individual student's needs and goals. This might involve incorporating the student's favorite songs, working on specific areas of weakness, and setting goals for improvement. Overall, when teaching drums, I would aim to provide a well-rounded education that covers the essential elements of drumming, while also being flexible and adaptable to the individual student's needs and interests.
