I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. I find it fun meeting new challenges and seeing what new musical abilities I am capable of. I teach music theory, piano, drums, guitar, bass, and voice. Read More

I believe that music a personal experience. When faced with a new student I always ask them what type of music they are into and what are they interested in learning and how that type of music makes them feel. It is a critical part of my teaching method. I believe when a student is learning something they have a personal connection to they are more engaged. For beginner students I have them do exercises and teach them about various scales. Read More

I've even continued my percussion studies while in Cincinnati, studying with James Culley of the world-famous Percussion Group Cincinnati. Education has been very important to me - not just my own, but that of others as well. I've been involved with teaching for over 10 years, from my early days of being a section leader in high school to private percussion teaching throughout my undergraduate years, and I intend to keep teaching for the rest of my life. Every student is different. Having only one teaching style would be very limiting and would eventually push some students away. I try to find out how each student best receives information, as well as what motivates them to play and become a better musician. From here I can form the lesson around the student's needs, making sure that we are both successful in the process. I try to have fun during lessons and create a personal bond with my students. For beginning students who are children, I typically like to start with rudiments and technique studies. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce the Moeller method. Later will move to the drumset and apply all 3 methods and became to develop what I like to call he groove and bass excises and different warm ups. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
