The philosophy underlying my teaching method can be summed up this way: If you can say it, you can play it. "Wop bop a loo bop a lop bom bom!" I'll bet I can teach you that rhythm quickly if I say it to you. And once you say it, it's easy to play on the drums. Some people play by ear and others by note, but I think it's best to do some of each. Read More

I love watching my students develop the skills and habits they need to grow as musicians. Each student is unique and as such I cater my approach to help them progress at their own pace. I do this by consulting with my students and coming up with individualized practice routines and long-term goals. I feel that in this process it is very important to both commend students on their achievements and to offer constructive criticism in a way that is compassionate and helpful. Read More

Hi, I am a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and have been teaching drums, piano, and percussion for over 12 years. I focus on the fundamentals of teaching students how to read music and the rudiments, but try to balance this with just playing and having fun. I want all of my students to have fun, and stay interested in playing and growing as a musician. Read More

I believe the proper technique is essential in order to be a successful percussionist. We would start by how to hold the stick properly, whether it be matched grip or traditional grip. From there we would move on to how to properly hit the drum and bounce the stick. The first few lessons are usually all about technique and approach and we would mainly stay on one drum or surface, but after that we would move to the drumset or another area that interests the student. A class once or twice a week is beneficial I believe for keeping up the continuity of practice. We will work on first the guitar as an instrument, basic chords, chord structures, some basic scales, and over time making chord changes happen as the minds memory/muscle memory for remembering chords grows! This is crucial for making the basic song happen. I encourage my students to find a handful of songs they really enjoy and may want to learn, so that we can learn them piece by peice. Read More

I've been playing music for close to 20 years now. I have played in many different environments and settings ranging from church to rock to classical to jazz to theater productions. I am largely self taught, though I would not have progressed at the rate I did without the people around that I had. One excellent thing I think has helped my as a teacher is having learned many wrong ways to do things. Read More

Since a very early age, I have been obsessed with music. I began playing drums at age 9 and guitar at age 10. I played in Concert/orchestra and Jazz bands all throughout elementary, middle, high school, and college. I have also been apart of numerous bands of my own. I have played hundreds of professional, paid gigs on guitar, drums, and bass. I have toured the US, played locally in New England, and been apart of many recording projects. Read More
