I am a dedicated musician and teacher beginning my fifth year in Portland. My background is multi-disciplinary: on top of my musical coursework I hold degrees in poetry and language. I am a songwriter as well as an instrumentalist and composer. I believe creativity and originality are very valuable parts of musical expression that sometimes get overlooked! I have more than three years experience playing in local bands, and I am well-versed in the Portland music scene (though I continue to add to my knowledge!) Read More

My first student in 2002 was 13 years old. Ever since then I’ve taught students ranging in age from 10 to 43. Most of the students studied drum kit with several showing interest in hand drums. The styles I’ve taught included Rock, Funk, Latin, Jazz, and Reggae. I always encourage my students to explore other styles of music. While my students are learning how to play they also benefit from studying music notation and theory. Read More

My favorate way to start a teacher student relationship is to have the student just sit on the drums and let loose for me. This gives me a good idea of where to start with the student and to see what he/shes preferences are. I like to focus strongly on technique, fundimentals, and music theory. My overall goal is to build the students skills and confidence to be able to sit in and jam in any kind of situation Read More

I have taught in one-on-one lessons, large group rehearsals, and everywhere in between. I started my teaching with a group of peers and professors while studying my undergraduate Music Education degree. We worked as a group to teach children ages six through 16 how to play violin/cello and perform as group. We then held a large concert as well as performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic at a Link Up concert. Read More

My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching younger middle school students. During college I would also give lessons to beginners and then taught in studios. My extensive performing experience around the world has given me a well rounded education of music that I love to share with my students! If you want to learn rock songs, let's rock! If you want to jam to salsa records, let's salsa! Read More

I like to start each student off with the fundamentals. I think the fundamentals are very important for every musician. Once you master the basics, then we can move on the solo repertoire, or start to develop each musicians individual style. I want the lessons to be both fun and engaging. So it’s important to find what kind of music each student is interested in and then develop that interest and passion. Read More
