My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. My approach to teaching is to try and understand each students level of musicianship and evaluate their weaknesses and strengths. I believe that repetition and the reduction of speed are essential for learning, mastering and remembering technique and the nuances of music. I encourage each student to explore the style or genre of music that is most appealing to them. I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. For teaching any person percussion/ drums there are very many different skill sets to be developed and understood. Reading music, playing with appropriate technique, and foot to hand coordination all make up the universe which is percussion. Starting a young percussionist there would be usually two components of the lesson. The first would be Technique and One surface drumming (Reading Basic Rhythms and music notation). Hello folks, my name is Andy. I am a 23-year-old musician with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University. I am predominantly a bass guitarist, with an affinity towards jazz, psychedelic rock, alternative, metal, prog, and sometimes just straight up pop.
