The most important part of a music instructors' job is to instill the principle that music is FUN! I hate when I hear people say that they studied piano when they were young, but their instructor made them hate it, for one reason or another. Just as importantly, I want to show that while anyone can learn to become a great musician, it doesn't come without the work. I feel that music study can be a great way to impart good habits of setting goals, and building and developing yourself to be something greater. Read More

I moved from Madrid, Spain to teach and perform in NYC. I love teaching all levels and styles, and my biggest strengths are my experience with children, my communication skills, my stylistic diversity, and my energy. I have performed in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, US, and Spain as a pianist and singer, and bring to the table true performing experience, with a deep sense of what the musical journey is about. Originally from Dallas, TX, I have nearly 20 years of music education experience at the elementary, secondary, and adult/college levels. After graduating from The University of North Texas, I spent several years as a band director in DFW before moving abroad to teach and perform. Recently, after spending 7 years as a professional musician in New York City, I realized how much I missed teaching in Texas! So it's time to return to my home and do for students what my music teachers did for me many years ago. Read More

Encouraging a periodic practice outside of lessons is one of the key points I like to emphasize for young students, as it tends to make further progress from what students are learning as in homework material. I also love to implement music appreciation, engaging students to listen to classical music and on the role it plays within the broader contexts of history and society. Listening materials are drawn from a variety of sources: classical music, non-Western music, American popular music (mainly jazz, country, and rock) tradition. Read More

I have been playing percussion for at least 40 years and share my love for music through teaching and performance. I presently am a show group member of Samba New York where I am section leader for the third surdo section. I play many Brazilian percussion instruments as well. I am also the section leader of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra and the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra where I play timpani. And though I presently play timpani, I have extensive experience playing mallet instruments, drumset, latin percussion and world percussion. Read More

My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher. I taught music theory, ear training, and vocal music. Right after I graduated college I was accepted into the music education program at Teachers College Columbia University where I received my masters degree in music education along with certification in New York state to teach Pre-K through 12. Although it is important that my students progress at their own pace, I suggest practicing as many 20 minute sessions possible daily, for research has shown that the mind can concentrate most clearly for that length of time. My lessons include Music Theory, Ear Training and Rhythmic Studies in order to save lots of time, by nurturing excellent Musicianship, in addition to learning the instrument, through practicing correctly. I am also an expert at introducing correct playing habits, by instructing students with regards to proper embouchure, breathing and Circular Breathing techniques, as necessary. Read More
