My teaching is very student-driven. I try to keep the students interests as a primary goal in keeping their interest level and so that they can progress in a musical situation. When they are interested in what they are learning, they strive for success. I try to acknowledge their successes and accomplishments which helps keep them learning and wanting to learn more. The best way to learn music is to teach it effectively, and I ALWAYS am learning from my students in a variety of ways, whether it be a new group that I'm not familiar with, or another style or genre that is new and fresh. My methods are in service of the cultivation of interest. Mainly I want the student to focus on learning how to play the music they want to play. The key to cultivating interest is to nurture the social, communicative and fun elements of playing music; associating the laughter and exhilaration with learning. I'm a self taught musician - I know that music is intuitive enough to learn without getting overly text-book about it, and I think focusing too much on the book at an early age can turn away potential musicians. Nothing is more rewarding than sharing my passion for music with my students! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace Each student is an individual with a unique personality background, and therefore it is essential to meet the students where they are at. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

I make sure that beginner students understand the instrument and start with the proper technique before they can develop bad habits. I try to pick a song or finger exercises for them each lesson as well as a few exercises where they can develop their reading skills. As a student becomes more comfortable with the instrument that is when we can get into more challenging pieces of music as well as different scales and exercises that will help them with their improvising as well as their overall understanding of music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2014, I spent 3 years touring the world with a variety of famous rock and pop groups playing some of worlds most famous venues. It taught me the value in hard work and dedication to a craft as well as teaching me organization and time management skills that I apply to every facet of my musical jobs. Read More

During my time teaching virtually, I have found that focusing on theoretical points of discussions, balanced by applicable examples of these topical discussions in older & contemporary forms of music, is a wonderful & effective way to teach the instrument. This is my job; to teach the instrument with enthusiasm, passion, & an enjoyable, fun filled approach. We will be working towards a rudimental & fundamental based understanding of the drumset through traditional technique, theory, books, along with fun, modern songs. Read More
