As an educator, I strive to provide my students with the tools that they will need to explore the direction that they want to take with their instrument. This can include from enjoying drumming as a hobby, performing in small jazz ensembles, recording electronic and acoustic drums in major recording studios, to performing with a full orchestra! I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning. For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I also work with music theory. It is also important to know what you are doing, not just putting your fingers on the strings. Read More

I grew up in a musical family and began classical music training at the age of 6. I studied clarinet and classical percussion and later on focussed on drums, improvised music, theory and composition. I graduated from the Conservatory in Amsterdam with a Master in Performance and Composition. I performed all over the world (America, Asia, Africa, Europe) I love sharing my knowledge with students of all levels and ages. I have found that one of the best ways to teach, is to teach a student to teach themselves. I like to give the student the correct tools and exercises to make them a great musician and drummer in any style of music they would like to play.
