My teaching style can best be described as flexible. I like to tailor every lesson to each individual student based on their needs and interests. For younger and newer students regardless of age, I like to focus primarily on fundamentals such as developing proper posture, becoming comfortable with the instrument, tuning and producing sound. For students who already have a good grasp of the fundamentals, we will have more of a discussion about their goals and interests, such as any upcoming auditions or performances. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a basic book like Fiddle Magic by Sally O'Reilly. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, I will move on to the Suzuki Books. Along with teaching from the Suzuki Book, I will supplement their learning with an etude book such as Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer. After a certain point, I will start working on pieces and concertos not in the Suzuki books anymore. Read More

I have been teaching independently since 2004, with experience in classical, Celtic fiddle, bluegrass, rock and improvisation. In addition to private lessons, I have assisted with classes from elementary through high school level at various schools. I plan customized lessons and work with students individually to achieve goals. I like to form real relationships with my students and still stay in touch with students I have not taught for years! For voice, I focus on proper understanding of the body and its role in singing. I combine this with a breakdown of individual skills followed by performance practice. The combination of the 2 allows there to be an understanding of the correct technique and an immediate opportunity for application. This is accompanied with homework in the form of exercises and books.For violin and piano, it is a similar process.
