As a drummer, I keep a smooth shuffle currently for 3 different rhythm blues bands who perform around New Orleans' Frenchmen Street and other top venues. I've also clocked studio sessions on bass, keys, violin, and viola. Viola and Violin came into my life as an adult and committed myself for 5+ to conquering the difficult fundamentals of these rewarding instruments. Currently in my spare time I enjoy learning baroque and classical music on piano. Read More

I've taught music for many years in different capacities, from private drum and guitar lessons to co-directing a high school marching band. I'm also a former high school special education and creative writing teacher (K-12 public school systems in Louisiana and Tennessee). I hold a B.A. in Music from New York University, where I focused on theory, composition, and jazz guitar performance. Read More

I always start beginning students with proper technique. I believe that great technique is the foundation of a great musician. I use a few different method books including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer, Modern Rudimental Swing Solos, Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials among others. I also believe that all musicians, especially drummers should have a strong rhythmic foundation so I incorporate sight-reading, call and response, and ear training to build the young musicians' instincts. Growing up, I tried a dozen different instruments before I discovered the drums. I've had six years of experience and a lot of different teachers with different teaching styles since then, and one major lesson stands out: drums are hard, but consistent, mindful practice always makes the difference. The same lesson applies to almost anything. In my college experience, it always turned out that consistent work produced the best results. Read More
