After I graduated from Roosevelt University I had more time outside of academics to start a teaching practice. In 2011, I worked at Lynn Marcel School of Fine Arts in Hillside, IL. As a drum instructor I helped design a corruculum plan and taught younger students ages 8-14. In 2013 and 2014, I worked at School of Rock in Oark Park, IL teaching drum set, voice, and piano for students of all age groups. Read More

My teaching style prioritizes consistent, daily practice set in a musical context. Weekly lessons keep students active and involved in their drumming education, while assigned practice exercises promote gradual but steady improvement. Assigned practice exercises are designed to improve rudiment execution, hand and foot technique, and musical sensibility. As soon as the student feels comfortable with the instrument and is ready for the challenge, I will start to include play-along tracks or recorded songs in the practice rotation. Read More

I have been teaching as a side-gig and hobby for almost as long as I've been playing! It started with friends in the neighborhood approaching me for advice on how to get started playing guitar. In my years in the Baltimore/DC area, I took private students for extra income outside of my dayjob. Now in New Orleans after years of grinding as a performing musician, I've increased my roster of students as a rewarding and less stressful way to have a music centered career, primarily with guitar and drums. I've taught music for many years in different capacities, from private drum and guitar lessons to co-directing a high school marching band. I've worked with individuals and groups of all ages (you're never too young or too old to start playing!). I'm also a former high school special education and creative writing teacher (K-12 public school systems in Louisiana and Tennessee). I hold a B.A. in Music from New York University, where I focused on theory, composition, and jazz guitar performance. Read More

New Orleans has welcomed me with open arms and I have been able to play with, and learn from many great musicians here. The first significant gig I got in New Orleans was with the Jason Marsalis vibes quartet. Jason was also a teacher of mine in college and he hired me for many gigs upon my arrival to New Orleans. I was able to record a live record with him entitled 'Jason Marsalis Live!' (Basin St Records) and I've toured around the U.S. with his group since 2018. Read More

I always approach teaching music in a relaxed and fun way. With the right teacher, learning music greatly rewarding and enjoyable. My teaching style is always based around my students experience level, their goals, and learning style. I always start with activities that are within the student's abilities, and carefully progress through more challenging pieces and exercises. This way, the student will always have a challenge that is achievable, not too difficult that makes them want to quit, and not to easy that makes them bored. Read More
