I typically like to start lessons with a warm up, and this is a good opportunity to see what level a student's technique is at. I immediately address anything that I see to be problematic in the student's technique, and we start working on ways to improve it as soon as possible. These can be simple exercises and when I see that my students are improving in these exercises and that their technique has gotten better, I always make sure that they also notice the difference and give them a sense of accomplishment. The first few lessons will be to gauge where the student is at technically, as well as musically. I like to cater to the needs of the student. Lessons can be as fast paced, or slow moving as the student would like. The important thing is to be comfortable with a technique before introducing new ones. Like I stated earlier, lessons will also include a historical study element. Drumming is best taught through studying the great drummers and musicians who have already mastered the instrument. For Adults I talk about what styles and types of music they're into followed by a list of goals to see what they'd like to get out of lessons. I teach out of the following books "The New Breed", Gary Chester, "Drummers Complete Vocabulary" as taught by Alan Dawson, John Ramsay, "Syncopation for the Modern Drummer", Ted Reed. I also assign transcription projects for the student to perform. I like to provide enough of a challenge to keep the student motivated. Read More

My goal and method of teaching is to give the students the tools they need to play whichever kind of music they are currently interested in. I do not like to teach genres or songs specifically. I like to give the student the correct tools and exercises to make them a great musician and drummer in any style of music they would like to play. I use methods and exercises that work on coordination, fluidity, control, speed, and musicality. Read More

I have a deep love for music, and one of the ways that I express that is through teaching! I primarily teach drums and percussion, which has been my main focus since 2011 when I entered high school. From there, I began a path that led me to Millersville University and NYU, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business Technology and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Studies respectively. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants/needs and strive to make the experience as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible for them. Over the years, I've taken lessons from instructors who had an array of teaching styles. While in high school, I was taught through intimidation and was scared into learning, which is something I was able to handle. This methods can actually turn students away from music which is the main reason dislike approach. Students should be comfortable and relaxed when entering a lesson. This not only creates a positive learning environment for the student but helps create a relationship between instructor and student that only helps the growth of both individuals. Read More
