For younger students I start with showcasing what they can achieve with practice and perseverance. I do that by showing my playing. Then we start with the chromatic scale so the fingers can get use to the strings and moving around the fretboard. Same with drums but we start with easy hits and patterns. I began learning how to play in middle school, when I was about 13 years old. Guitar Hero Rock Band became very popular, and it sparked my interest in playing an instrument. I attended a few lessons, but grew disheartened as I didn't grasp some of the fundamentals of playing. Once I was in high school I performed with the majority of our groups including; symphonic band, concert band, jazz band, marching band drumline, and our indoor percussion drumline and my senior year I was section leader for our drumline and concert groups. During my high school career I performed in many WGI contest and finals with our indoor percussion. After high school I marched a season with the DCI group, Memphis Sound where I traveled the east coast for three months performing and practicing. Read More
