I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band. As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs. Since the age of 12, the study and performance of music has been a driving force in my life. As such I have developed to spend the better part of the last 28 years recording and performing as a drummer. I am most experienced in the rock, hard rock and metal genres but consistently study and develop a variety of basic to advanced drum set patterns, techniques and fills. These additional styles include Bossa Nova, Brazilian Samba, Afro-Cuban, Funk and Blues. Read More

My teaching experience began in 1980 while still in high school teaching private lessons. Since then Ive taught at Westminster Choir College, Rutgers University, NJ State and County Teen Arts Programs as well as private and group lessons in my own studio. My casual approach allows students the relaxation and freedom necessary to learn at their own pace. With a strong focus on fundamentals and using those fundamentals as building blocks, my goal is to help students become musical and creative and find their own unique voice on their instrument. I love to teach music because it reminds me of the joy I felt in the process of musical discovery when I was a student. In 1996, I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. Since graduation, I've had the opportunity to explore many avenues within the world of percussion. Among these opportunities, I had the privilege to study and perform different music of the Caribbean. Read More

Again, the most important thing about learning any instrument is to have fun! If it's not fun, you won't continue to work hard at improving. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am not "tough" on a student. I think it is important to be honest and hold students accountable. However, I belive in celbrating all of the "wins" in life, no matter how small they may be. Let's work together to set lofty but attainable goals, and then let's have a blast arriving at all of these milestones . Read More
