I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. For beginners I prefer to start with a snare drum method. The reason being that everything they will learn on the snare drum can be applied to other percussion instruments such as drum set or mallets. I will typically use the Vic Firth Snare Method, Alfred Snare Method, or the Haskell Harr Snare Method. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. My favorite moment is when the student hears himself or herself actually playing the beat or fill that I have been instructing. Reaching this point repeatedly keeps my students practicing and engaged in the process of learning drums. My teaching occurs both on the drumset and on the drum pad.
