My method of teaching is that I always start from the theoretical part of every instrument or skill I teach because if they don’t have the background understanding they will be limited in their performances. For drumset the above texts also work but the best solution is the Rhythm Concept by Kelly Wallis, a fantastic method of deconstructing rhythm. There are many traditional style texts along with a host of audioplay along style texts that I am comfortable teaching from.
