I play 3 different instruments. I originally started out on the flute. I played the flute during high shool and college. I studied under Karen , and Leslie Timmons. While I was at college, I became interested in Music Therapy. As part of the curriculum for Music Therapy, I also studied guitar and piano. I have worked as a music therapist and as a music teacher for many years. I have played in marching bands, orchestras, and symphonic bands. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Students are able to select their own music and share their interests with me. Read More

My method/my style is as mentioned above: My focus is always on the individual student, their music interests and goals AND having a BLAST! My "style" is centered around enjoyment and realistic accomplishments, so the atmosphere is REWARDING! I do begin with foundational skills, music theory that is applicable to the knowledge level of my students, and technique building. However, I want my students to start to play songs as soon as possible and we only work on songs that THEY choose - I do not force students to learn songs that I select or songs that a book tells them to. Music has been a passion of mine from age 6. I got my start playing the piano with friends trying to figure out the music from Super Mario 64. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't picked up an instrument of some kind. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my time in high school where I taught a few of my peers in informal lessons, this evolved into adopting a few more formal students that I taught through highschool until they reached an advanced level. I have also helped several of my students grow into songwriting outside of just playing an instrument. I also have experience teaching basic music theory. And have played and love teaching many genres. Read More

My teaching style is what I call allied teaching. Even though we need to study the mathematics of music, so to speak, we cannot forget that music is art and art is not exact. Music has an infinite number of paths to offer you and even if you know all the scales that exist, if you don't know how to apply them in a harmonious and spontaneous way you will be stuck in the same place.
