I don't want to be too easy and I don't want to be too hard. We all have life events that keep us from practicing 16 hours a day. Also, you don't want to practice 15 minutes a week either. A good balance between work and play is needed. However, the student will be rewarded for challenging themself- both internally via self esteem and a sense of accomplishment, and externally with praise from me and friends and family. Read More

I am a public school teacher here in Austin and I have done my best to incorporate music in the classroom. I have taught instruments to my students, recorded an album with student written songs, hosted school wide performances, and visited students at home for personalized music education. I began my musical training at age 8, began playing professionally as a teenager, and have been teaching for 15 years. I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Music Education, with a minor in Percussion Performance. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to perform several nights a week around Austin, and to have toured the US multiple times during the past two years. In 2005-2006 i started giving private  lessons at first in teenagers or people around 20-25 years old. My teaching approach generally depends on who the student is, and what that student intends to accomplish. Generally, I am more of a music "coach" who teaches by teaching, and then doing. I typically use a book for the basis of reference, and then encourage the student to go beyond the notes on the page. I have a bigger passion in coaching students not to just copy another persons style or to simply learn exactly how a drum part goes. Read More
