In 1984 I was a music instructor for the Canadian Forces School of Music in Esquimalt British Columbia. Over the last three decades I have taught one-on-one lessons and ensembles at all levels including Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. In my lessons I use snare drum method books such as Mitchell Peters Intermediate Book or Stick Control by George Stone to teach reading and basic hand technique.  Once I feel the student is proficient in reading and technique I move on to drumset coordination books as well as learning drum parts to the students favorite music.  I also teach techniques for xylophone, tympani and other classical percussion instruments.  I have an extensive library of music books and techniques so if one method doesn't work I have no problem customizing my lesson plan to fit the student's need. During my time as an undergrad student I taught percussion and basic piano lessons in the local area. Since leaving school in 2014 I have continued my music education and focused on teaching young children both group and individual. I plan performance opportunities for the students every couple of months. I emphasize that music is another language we can communicate with. It will actually be my first experience at teaching. I'm glad to have chosen Musika for this new experience and can't wait to teach new students what I learnt from my own teachers. I want to transmit my knowledge in drums the best I could and make it fun for everybody. I will make the lesson about the student and what he/she likes and go from there.
