First I think it is important to get to know the student and chat about what their intentions are musically. Then I can customize a lesson plan for them which includes warming up, techniques, and repertoire. I sometimes find it helpful to discuss of elements music theory, aural skills, and reading music depending on the students desires in those areas. I strive to motivate students by picking material they are excited about. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have been involved with music ever since I was young, whether it was playing for my church, performing and teaching drumlines, or performing live or in studio with different musicians and bands around the midwest. Most of my favorite memories in life involve music, and I want to be able to share my passion with others. Read More

Every student comes with a different playing ability, learning style, and general goals for what they would like to accomplish. I remind myself of this everyday before I teach. I believe that individuality is one of the most important aspects of music, so I listen to what my student wants to learn and I try to create a somewhat customized curriculum that caters to their needs. I use my experience as a teacher and a learner to meet my students at their level, and empathize with what they may be feeling during my lessons. Read More

I have dedicated the last 15 years of my life to learning both how to play the drums, as well as the history of the drumset. Since a young age, I have been obsessed with gathering as much knowledge on the subject as possible. This includes everything from vintage equipment, different playing techniques, drum and cymbal construction and their effect on sound, and many others. Now, my main focus is on spreading this information, education other musicians, and most importantly, helping to extend my passion for music and the drumset to everyone interested in learning to play the instrument. I have learned quite a bit from my teaching experience, but there are two things that consistently hold significant importance to me. The first is that every student is unique - no two students, no matter how similar their interests, should necessarily have the same curriculum or be taught the same way. The second is that every student should be constantly feeding their passion(s) - not every step of learning and improving always feels fun at the time, but if the student has a chance to be passionate about what they are doing, even the most difficult work will feel purposeful and rewarding. I would describe the overall style of my teaching philosophy as “personalized”. With all new students, I hold an initial interview in order to learn as much as I can regarding their musical background, knowledge, and experience, both in general and specifically to the instrument they wish to pursue. Through that initial picture, I begin to build a curriculum designed for the specific needs, goals, and desires of each student. Read More

I strive to create an atmosphere of fun and creativity in my studio. This is done while simultaneously building a strong foundation of technique, posture, and musicality in all of my students, regardless of their age or experience level. I have no personal agenda when instructing. I consider myself merely a means for the student's own personal and musical development. Lesson structure depends on the individual's goals. If the student hopes to nail an audition for a spot in a high school's drumline, then we will work on snare drum technique and concentration during private practice and during performance. Read More
