My teaching style is very simple. We will begin by finding the interests of the student. Then we’ll identify what they like about the instrument and their basic knowledge. Once that is done, we’ll begin experimenting with different generes. And finally, we’ll create a plan that will allow them the chance to grow musically and fundamentally on the drums. Nothing is more rewarding than passing the knowledge of music to my students. It truly is an invaluable gift to have the experience and feeling that playing music gives to a person. The student will carry this with them the rest of life and that truly inspires me to push my students to find their own voice on their instrument. I like to start my lessons with basic introduction to the guitar as an instrument and its components. String names, how to tune, and how to change your strings are included. Scales improve finger dexterity and teach the students about moving up and down the fretboard of a guitar. Learning basic chords is crucial for learning most modern day music. My path as an educator began during my time studying history and philosphy in New Orleans, LA. I was playing live music almost six nights a week, and started helping out as an assistent at Tipitina's Sunday Workshop for young musicians. There I helped and watched the great Johnny Vidacovich teach young aspiring musicians the art of playing in an ensemble.
