For beginning students who are children, I typically start the first day with allowing them to perform what they have learned prior so that I can see where their strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, I will work on their strengths so that they feel confident to tackle on their weaknesses. Once the student has progressed in fundamentals, I will advance them to solo repertoires appropriate for their performances. Having work with all levels of students, I understand that and recognize that I want to tailor my lessons to the students needs so they can be most successful. On piano, for beginner students, I often start them on some of the primer level method books, either from the Faber and Faber "Piano Adventures" series or the Alfred beginning piano series and then transition to having the students learn music they want to learn and are excited about playing. I graduated in 1993 from Kean University with a Bachelor of Management Science degree and a minor in music. In my musical career, spanning 38 years, I have performed with varied groups including: drumset with The Road Runners Blues Band, Catfish and Paul Plumeri Blues Band; West African, Middle Eastern and Afro-Cuban percussion with Groove Merchant Drum Dance Ensemble; bodhran and bones with traditional Celtic bands Kintail, Cwn Annwn and Browne Jenkyn; and snare drum with The First Highland Watch of Pennsylvania and Rev War Re-enactors First NJ Volunteers.
