ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor of Music, Jazz Studies and Music Business, New York University

Overview:
Steve has been working as a professional musician since 1990. He has performed all over the northeastern United States, and especially in the New York City area. Steve has performed at numerous music festivals and toured Europe.  His playing encompasses a wide range of musical styles including funk, rock, blues, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, big band, small group jazz, and world music.
EXPERIENCE
Steve has been teaching private and group lessons for Over 30 years and has taught all age groups and levels. He also authored the instructional book “1001 Drum Grooves” published by Cherry Lane, which continues to sale well worldwide. Steve has performed at numerous music festivals and has toured Europe as well as all over the east coast. He has recorded in a variety of idioms including: rock, pop, Afro-Cuban, reggae, small group jazz, folk, big band jazz, funk, steel band, blues, and world music.
METHODS USED
I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs and desires. I encourage all of them to develop reading, listening, coordination, and concentrating skills. I help each student to have the ability to play many different music styles and improvise in those styles. We work with developing the ear in order to play along with recorded music and teach them how to transcribe the songs so that they can document it for future use. I use various books for sight-reading, developing snare drum technique, playing musical styles, developing coordination, improvising, and independence. I use whatever books work best for that individual student.
LESSON STYLE
I like to teach in a fun engaging way. Keeping the mood light yet focused. As long as the lessons are enjoyable and the student sees his or her growth, they will continue to practice and grow as a drummer/musician.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
