I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. I construct lessons from a variety of resources, including reference texts and modern independent instructional apps, but do not follow one source for direction of lessons. I find the interests of a student and construct exercises that will allow them to play closer to what they most enjoy, while also disciplining in drumming fundamentals. I assign realistic homework practices that can be modified for use on a practice pad or full drum kit. Read More

I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. From there I have a few options of instruction methods that I tailor to the individual student. More intermediate/advanced students will not escape from some of the basics (metronome, scales, rudiments etc.) but will be met with many more choices of performance material based more on their individual goals.
