Hi! My name's Nick, I'm a student at Northwestern University studying music education! I've been playing drums for nearly a decade. I got my start playing at local clubs in Minneapolis under the mentorship of the top musicians in the Twin Cities . I was admitted to the Bienen school of music at Northwestern University to pursue a jazz performance degree under the guidance of world-acclaimed musicians. I have 5 years teaching experience with private drum lessons. Most of my students have been younger and really craved the fundamentals of drumming I have the most experience teaching, which has honed my skills as a teacher to provide the foundation for more intermediate and advanced learning. What I believe makes me a comprehensive teacher is the fact that I myself have never stopped learning new things. No matter what level you are, advancing your skills and that moment of realization that you have while performing certain skills on the drum set you never thought you would get down is an indescribable feeling and I love nothing more than seeing other student drummers go through the same emotions. I began teaching private drum set lessons during my first year as an Eastern Illinois University student. I taught lessons for just about three years while in college. At one point, I had about 14 students to teach and fit into my busy schedule. I've learned a lot from that experience and now know how to manage time efficiently with a heavy teaching load. I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. I normally create a lesson plan that develop the student skills yet keep them interested in wanting to learn more about music not just a whole lot of theory. I also believe, the best way is hands on work. (Practical learning) I keep the lesson interesting and the syllabus simple for learn whatever it is I'm teaching with homework for practice.
