I have been playing clarinet since grade school, saxophone since high school, and picked up piano in college. I have also performed in many ensembles, such as the Messiah College Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Read More

In my private lessons I emphasize building a strong foundation in rhythm, intonation, and note accuracy.  I incorporate learning theory, and playing with musical intention into every lesson to develop maturity, even in young musicians.  My students are comfortable reading music, and have all the skills they need to practice effectively.  In addition, I have prepared many musicians for successful concerts, festivals, and gigs. I create my own custom lesson plans and materials to cater to the students needs.  For young beginners, I recommend the KJOS Standard of Excellence book. Read More

Instruments: Violin Viola Clarinet

I started teaching in high school, and I've been teaching consistently for the past 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Once this is accomplished the rest is easy! Students who learn to love playing an instrument enjoy practicing, progress rapidly, and continue to play music throughout their lives.I work with various band methods, tailored for each student'sindividual skill level and personal needs.
