I have been teaching woodwinds for over 40 years, in my private studio in my home. I teach all levels of flute, clarinet, and saxophone. I specialize in personalized lessons, gearing the lessons to the needs and aspirations of the student. As a Saxophonist and Clarinetist I prescribe to the Joe Allard method of embouchure and technique that has been codified and popularized by saxophone master and pedagog, Dave Liebman, from whom I have taken countless classes. For my classical students, I like to use the Rubank method books. For more advanced students, I am a huge fan of the Rose Studies for Clarinet and the Ferling studies for Saxophone. Both of these books not only provide great etudes for technique but also are great studies in musicality, theory and interpretation. Read More

 Shows I have recently performed includes Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat and Gypsy. Whilst in London, I spent my last two years working with young people of various ages. I worked alongside passionate colleagues to present group musical workshops that may have focused on sound, percussion, composition or with full ensembles. Some of these workshops lasted a day while others lasted a few months. I was also asked by the Royal College of Music Junior Department, who worked with talented musicians aged below 19 or pre-college, to assist in teaching flute students as well as small ensembles. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Finally, student interests are very important to me. If a student has a strong desire to learn a song or study a topic, it would be wrong for me to deny them this opportunity. The only exception would be if a student wanted to learn something that was seriously out of their current level. In that case I would find a simpler version for the student, or I would scaffold other songs or exercises to build the necessary skills that are needed to reach that goal. Read More
