I have been teaching since 1990.I like to keep lessons light-hearted, engaging, and fun. I believe that the most important lesson a student can learn is to love and enjoy playing music. Once this is accomplished the rest is easy! Students who learn to love playing an instrument enjoy practicing, progress rapidly, and continue to play music throughout their lives.I work with various band methods, tailored for each student'sindividual skill level and personal needs. I use what some have called the target approach. With this method you are working on one concept at a time, and you should always have one concept in mind while you practice. Some examples of beginning concepts are 1) keeping a steady beat, 2) sound quality, or 3) smooth finger technique. In one practice session using the target approach you may spend 10 minutes on target 1) and 15 minutes on target 2). What is important, however, is that you continue to work on a target every day until you find yourself performing that single concept flawlessly and effortlessly. Read More

My teaching style is flexible based on the individuals needs. Some students require a firm approach whereas others are better off with a gentler one. I pride myself on my ability to connect with students and find what motivates them. My approach heavily relies on the historical pedagogy of every instrument I teach while also implementing improvisation and free play to excite and motivate. My students are strongly encouraged to attend concerts, master classes, and listen to live music as much as possible. Read More

My teaching style is both rigorous and positive. I believe that the best way to learn any skill is through hard work and persistence in a judgement-free, positive psychological environment. I work in a routine every lesson so that students understand the next step in the process. I make accommodations for each student depending on their personal goals, needs, and learning styles. No two students are the same, so no two lessons should be the same. Read More

I believe that lessons should be catered towards the unique musical goals of the individual. I take pride in finding new ways to teach proper fundamentals and habits in new students, that will ensure long-term success on their instrument, and allow them to explore whichever avenue in music they wish to pursue. For students interested in learning jazz, I emphasize ear training and rhythmic feel, while introducing more advanced theory and technical studies. Read More
