When I teach students I prefer to keep them organized on a seasonal basis; setting goals for the long term and the short term so that the student is busy and occupied. Every student has a different approach to learning and it is important to develop a plan that works for every student. I usually recommend that students keep track of their practising in a journal so that they can reflect on their goals and development. Read More

Having studied Music for almost 20 years I have always wanted to give the gift of music to others through education. After high school I became a marching band coach for 3 years assisting in teaching various sections and leadership positions. I have performed in many cities across the United States as well as internationally. I have had the opportunity to perform in several musical productions both on stage and in the pit orchestra, musicals from Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, The Music Man, Footloose, Anything Goes, to Ragtime. For beginning piano, I use the thompson and bastien books, along with basic theory books. As the student progresses, I introduce them to actual peices of vaying styles, as soon as they are ready. For saxophone and clarinet, I use multiple books, depending on the student's needs and goals and a host of my own materials and methods I have developed from years of teaching. I always concentrate on learning how to breathe corrctly and produce a smooth and constant airflow to produce a nice, steady, controlled tone. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

I began teaching as early as 2003, while in high school on clarinet. I continued to teach during college as a voice coach, and have been teaching piano, music theory and music composition to this date. I have worked with both children and adults, in classrooms and one on one. One of the things that distinguishes me from other teachers is how I tailor my program for each student, because everyone learns differently and has different strengths and talents. Read More
