Dependent on the instrument, I generally use essential musical workbooks as well as my own scales and exercises that create a better base to suppliment the workbooks.  I find that these general books are useful to keep the student's growth on track, however, my own sound exercises alllow wind players to usually progress at a quicker rate.  For more advanced students, once we have discussed what each student hopes to get out of their lessons and what they generally see themselves doing with their instruments in the next few years, we can decide what pieces to work on and what skills to develop. I start beginners off with the Rubank Elementary Method, which introduces reading, scales, arpeggios, and expressive devices such as dynamics and articulation. I also like students to start with improvisation, composition, and ear training as soon as possible. I encourage them to both work on whatever repertoire interests them and find new types of music they don't know they're interested in yet. More advanced students may progress to some of the more advanced music theory, technical etude books, and scale/arpeggio exercises. Read More

I am an eclectic composer, known primarily for my work in independent films, and a clarinettist with an extensive international performing and recording background. Proficient in many different styles, I am teaching my students to be open to any opportunity and am helping them realize their full creative potential. Wherever they would want to concentrate on a single task, like preparing for auditions for an orchestra or a music school, or are dreaming to join a classical/pop/rock/jazz/klezmer/folklore/arabic/gipsy/wedding band or ensemble - I will help. I have also become an avid arranger, making arrangements of Broadway and Show Music for a classical ensemble. I love being able to cross the different styles of clarinet, and would love to teach students that have a desire to be a proficient player in any of those styles. When beginning lessons, we have a conversation about what the students' goals are, whether it be classical or other styles, and what they hope to accomplish (entering competitions, auditioning for programs, putting on recitals, etc.). Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder

In my private lessons I emphasize building a strong foundation in rhythm, intonation, and note accuracy.  I incorporate learning theory, and playing with musical intention into every lesson to develop maturity, even in young musicians.  My students are comfortable reading music, and have all the skills they need to practice effectively.  In addition, I have prepared many musicians for successful concerts, festivals, and gigs. I create my own custom lesson plans and materials to cater to the students needs.  For young beginners, I recommend the KJOS Standard of Excellence book. Read More

My teaching experience dates to the beginning of my undergraduate degree. I took one year of music education experience courses and gained valuable experience observing and student teaching in public schools. I have also maintained a small private studio for the past seven years. It is extremely important to me that my students have fun making music and learning to play their instrument. If it isn't enjoyable, there is no point in undertaking the effort to learn a new instrument! Read More

Individual musical interests (such as jazz, pop, classical, or rock genres) are incorporated into each lesson, helping to streamline and facilitate the learning process. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
