I am from Dallas, Texas but moved to Pittsburgh to study with Michael Rusinek of the Pittsburgh Symphony. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education with Teacher Certification in Texas from Southern Methodist University and my Master of Music and Advanced Music Studies Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. I have performed in many regional orchestras in the Pittsburgh area as well as with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. My entire life, I have been dedicated to the study of music. From my early childhood education to present day gigs and songwriting, music has always been a centerpiece of my life. I have performed all around the world and am incredibly grateful for the learning experiences I have been blessed with. I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. My teaching methods and training further developed during pedagogy classes and workshops during and after college. Performance experience includes formal recitals to complete my undergraduate degree, Portland Wind Symphony, Portland Community Wind Band, Northwest Wind Symphony, Opera Theater Oregon, Oregon Symphonic Band, North Coast Symphonic Band, Astoria Music Festival and a variety of small chamber ensembles. My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. My students have done well in the music exams through the Toronto Conservatory system and at local music festivals.   Appreciation of music is an important life skill.
