My private teaching experience began in high school, when I began accepting beginner clarinet students. I served as the clarinet section leader and then woodwind captain in my high school marching band, where I was responsible for conducting rehearsals and sectionals as well as teaching music to other woodwind students in grades 9-12. For beginner students, I start with teaching them the foundational clarinet skills including: embouchure, breathing, tonguing, and music theory. I then proceed to teach them the chromatic and major scales as well as arpeggios. I typically have students start off with working through the Essential Elements for Band and Rubank books. I have been teaching lessons privately in addition to working full-time as a music teacher for more than 20 years.
