Music lessons can be very boring if there is not the right balance of things taught. I always make sure that each lesson incorporates a mixture of technical work specific to the clarinet, scales, note and rhythm reading, basic clarinet repertoire, well known pieces, unknown pieces and sight reading. Once my student has built up enough skills I then encourage them to join community/school bands and/or orchestras. I take pride in leading students into the wonderful world of music. Read More

I like to make learning an instrument an enjoyable experience and allow students to progress at their own pace. I also introduce them to different styles of music such as classical, folk, Broadway musicals as well as popular songs. In addition, I teach students new skills and techniques to enhance their playing abilities. I encourage my students to practice, ask questions about the music and how it should be played with respect to the technique and expression required to perform a piece of music effectively. Read More

Although method books are helpful tools, I do not consider myself or my students bound to them and I work with each student and their individual goals in order to craft lesson plans that work for both of us. I have performed with clarinet choirs, flute choirs, jazz big bands, and saxophone quartet. Saxophonist and Composer Julian brings a fresh ear to the world of modern creative music, drawing upon literary works and visual art to lend his compositions a singular character. Read More
