I am an organized teacher and lessons are structured to accommodate technique development and fun solo work. Each month we will set a goal, and build a weekly plan to get you to accomplish that goal. I ask students to keep a journal of their goals and practice time focus so we can measure how we're working to our goal. We will always do warm up exercises, scale of the week to improve sight-reading, finger twisters to improve technical ability, and solo work of your choosing to put all that practice into action! Music is a big part of everything that I do. I graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1992. I have performed in ensembles, for weddings and special events, and provided accompaniment services to other musicians. For the Intermediate level student (2-4 yrs of playing experience) the same lesson template as the beginning student is used with more advanced music / method books (Rose Etudes), selected solos / ensembles and appropriate scale studies. For the advanced student (4-6 years of experience), I like to introduce more advanced clarinet fundamentals / techniques, appropriate rhythmic studies, an advanced solo or ensemble selection for collegiate consideration, Rose or similar etudes and technical scale studies. During the initial lesson, I determine what the student is interested in learning the best approach pace to help them achieve their goals. While I have recommend materials to varying levels of students, every lesson approach is different. With all my students, I believe keeping them engaged and excited at what they are doing is most important.
