I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love. I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week. You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. Read More

Every student has different pace of of growth. The most important goal in my teaching for both students and myself is making a progress. Little encouragement helps students to not to lose their interest in music, and continue to work harder to improve. However, sometime little bitter reality is also needed. With a good combination of both, I lead my students to set their realistic goals and help them achieve them. Read More

I center the way I teach technique around what "feels" good to a student, especially older students who have already started, to make sure that we are able to prevent and respond to injuries. So, I start with stretching and will frequently refer back to exercises that are meant to integrate physical ease into playing. Aside from that, I try to balance a consistent routine/expectation of things I want to cover (asking for things a week in advance, always playing a scale at the start of the lesson, etc), while also meeting a student where they are at on the day. I am currently about to complete my undergraduate degree at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. During my freshman year, I auditioned for and was accepted into the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. With this ensemble, I gained extensive training as a touring cellist in a large orchestra. We perfomed regularly in Symphony Hall Boston, Sander's Theatre Harvard, a tour to Carnegie Hall (reviewed by the NY Times and turned into a live recording for sale), as well as a tour to The Netherlands in June 2013 where we played in 5 cities culminating in a performance in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. I do not use any particular "methods" of teaching, although I did begin out on Suzuki. And while I do believe this is an important methodogy, Suzuki does have its flaws as do most of its kind. As I mentioned earlier, theory, harmony, and music history (as rudimentary as they may be at the beginning) are crucial for all students regardless of their level. The more one knows about the piece, the easier it will be to interpret and understand what the composer is asking for. Read More

I have played cello since age 4 and piano since age 7. I holds a B.M. in cello performance and composition from Ithaca College, as well as a Masters in cello performance from Boston University. Currently earning a Performance Studies Certificate in Contemporary Classical Music from Boston Conservatory under Rhonda Rider, I perform with the contemporary ensemble there, as well as freelance performing in the greater Boston area. I am also an active composer and performer of contemporary music. Read More

I recently began registration with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and am in the process of becoming a Suzuki certified teacher for Book 1. I find the Suzuki method extremely helpful for starting young students, however I also like to use other resources such as the Essential Elements book for beginners. I also want to focus heavily on note reading and sight reading at a younger age, so students have a solid foundation if and when they become members of orchestras or other ensembles. Read More
