Being a private instructor affords me the opportunity to really tailor each learning experience to my student's needs, personality and musical aspirations. I enjoy the lesson most when my student is enjoying the lesson, so it's important to me that we're working on enjoyable music, making good progress and working hard enough to have fun. While I make sure to keep a record of goals and achievements in lessons, I also like to go with the flow of the student's pace of learning. Read More

Teaching is not just a profession for me; it's a passion that I've had the privilege to pursue through meaningful organizations like the Saturday Conservatory of Music and Through The Staff. At the Saturday Conservatory of Music in San Gabriel, I've had the incredible opportunity to share my love for music with the children of the greater Los Angeles area. This non-profit organization is dedicated to providing quality music education to young minds aged 6 through 20. Read More

I taught the students from beginners to very advanced college students in traditional classic way. I taught big string classes and private lessons in different levels. I was assistant professor in University of Mississippi for ten years and taught applied cello and string Bass lessons. Many of my students went to further professional studies and started their music career. And also, I have many students who went to other majors in college but still keeping very active in the area of music, playing community orchestra, start their own private chamber music group, become very positive part of their community. I started teaching piano to both children and adults in high school. One of them was 5 years old, the other was 6, and another was 13 years old. I've also taught a 19-year-old for a short period of time. For the two kids who were 5 and 6, they were total beginners at piano and did not know anything about piano so my main focus was to introduce them to this instrument and teach them the basics of music theories, scores, and postures. For younger cello students I love Suzuki book 1- for older students I use Lee. For my piano students I start with Bastien series. I always try to keep my students engaged and lessons positive. If for some reason a student get stuck on a piece of music or they're no longer progressing in a meaningful was I am not opposed to shelving it and moving on to something new. Read More

Believing in the value of constructive criticism, I actively involve students in the evaluation process. I prompt them to reflect on their playing, encouraging them to identify aspects they appreciate and areas for enhancement. Embracing an open-door policy, I reassure students that no question is too trivial, creating an atmosphere that promotes curiosity and active participation. In addition to teaching instrumental proficiency, I emphasize the importance of effective practice techniques. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More
