I am trained in the Suzuki method and will typically start my beginning cello students in this if they are not already interested in another method. If you are interested in a different method I will typically alter my teaching to accommodate. Early lessons typically work on establishing a strong technical foundation so the student will be able to pursue music that speaks to them. I believe patience and versatility are very important, as each student learns a different way. I set goals for each lesson and try to guide the student during the lesson into achieving them. Sometimes the goals are achieved during the lesson, and sometimes while practicing on hteir own time. Having grown up in a musical family (with the only exception being my dad), I have learned first hand what it takes to be a successful teacher. Although I am in no way a master teacher, I have taught primarily younger individuals ranging from 10-13. My goal is never to rush the pupil, as easy as that may be at times. Cellist Minjung Kang was born and raised in South Korea. At age of 7, she began her music studies in piano and won multiple awards in piano competitions by the age of 9 such as Piano competitions hosted by famous piano manufacturing companies in Korea such as Samick and Young Chang. At age of 11, she had her first piano recital at Hoam Performing Art Center as the award of the competition. She picked up her first cello at age of 11, and studied under Kuk Rok Park, one of the most famous cellists in Korea. Read More
