I am a recent graduate from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. My main reason for relocating to the Chicago area has been to join multiple orchestras and ensembles. I have traveled all over the world performing and giving recitals including performances at Merkin Hall in New York, Millenium Park and Symphony Center in Chicago, Bela Bartok Hall in Budapest, Hungary, as well as performances in Pyongchang, South Korea, home of the 2018 Winter Olympics. I have also enjoyed working in the Memphis (Tennessee) City Schools whenever I am in my hometown, as well as working in the Bayonne, NJ and other schools to teach in classrooms whenever possible. As a private instructor, I believe that it's important for a child to think of their lessons as a special time that is set aside for their music/cello and I always traveled to my own teacher's studio and that was our cello place for lessons, so I think it is important for my students/parents to travel to my studio as well. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method and the Sassmannshaus Early Start books. As they grasp the beginning fundamentals, I incorporate the Alfred "My First Theory Book" series. As the students advance, we begin using Martin's "I Can Read Music," Rick Mooney's "Position Pieces for Cello" and "Fun in Thumb Position." When teaching young children and beginners, I use the Suzuki method. I have been certified in pre-book 1 and book 1 of the Suzuki method by the legendary educator Tanya Carey. For older/more advanced students, I use a series of methods taught to me by the renowned cellist and pedagogue Robert Jesselson, whose teachings have lead me to where I am today, and have produced cellists of the highest quality that can be found among the worlds greatest orchestras and institutions.
