I recently began registration with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and am in the process of becoming a Suzuki certified teacher for Book 1. I find the Suzuki method extremely helpful for starting young students, however I also like to use other resources such as the Essential Elements book for beginners. I also want to focus heavily on note reading and sight reading at a younger age, so students have a solid foundation if and when they become members of orchestras or other ensembles. Read More

As a cellist, my passion and appreciation for music drive me to share my love of the art with others through performing, collaborating, and most importantly, teaching students! In my work as an educator, I want to demonstrate the importance of music to the world by helping make classical music education more accessible to anyone interested in learning and ultimately building up a community of students who enjoy making music and sharing it with others as well. In addition to my private studio, I have taught as a private instructor, both through music schools in the central NY area and at Ithaca College in Ithaca NY. I have maintained a private studio since early in my undergraduate degree (6 years ago). I am most experienced in classical cello at all levels of experience and all ages, but will adapt my teaching depending on the interests of the student. Read More

Through my time working with students I have found that it is very important to get to know them on a more personal level, i.e. music they like, their interests, their hobbies etc, and that way I can tailor my lesson plans to them as individuals and make them feel as comfotable as possible. I've learned a lot from my experiences in and out of the classroom, and I use my knowledge to the best of my ability in every lesson. Read More

For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies. Read More

I am a motivated and open minded musican who takes joy in learning from others. Having recently graduated from the Boston Conservatory this past May, I have taken part in a number of various ensmebles. While my focus was in performance, in recent years I have taken a greater interest in teaching. With both a liberal arts as well as conservatory background, I have had the opportunity to dabble in both worlds. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with teaching basic music theory, scales, and start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course for the piano students. For Cello beginning students, it's very important to have a correct playing position. Therefore, we will spend some time on knowing cello, position for both hands, and then we will start with Suzuki. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More
