I have over 15 years experience teaching privately as well as teaching band and orchestra in public schools. At one time I taught thirty-eight, half hour band and orchestra sessions every week. This included private Jazz ensembles and orchestra—all at the Elementary level. I taught 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra for the San Ramon Valley School District for 5 years as well as after-school ensembles for 9-11 year olds. Read More

As student, I always took note of ideas that were mentioned to me in my lessons and then experimented further with those ideas teachers gave me.  I believe that a student should take on self-initiated approach to their instrumet.  Guidance is key during my lessons.  I have limited experience with younger children; however, my same ideology would apply for any age.   I aim to make music intuitive, conversational, and practical. My teaching experience began after I received Master of Music Education degree. I taught numerous students since then. I have exceptional experience in teaching little children learning their first instruments to upper grade students who are serious about studying music in college. Some of my students continued to study cello and became professional players themselves. For the beginner students I emphasize mastering the basics, so that they can have the good foundation to grow on. Read More

I have varied experience relating teaching, whether it comes from teaching directly or other musical experiences. My earliest teaching experiences were mentorship programs in my local youth symphonies as a high schooler, and since then I've taught in afterschool programs, received my Suzuki Book 1 certification, and taught ear training in a classroom setting. Through my experience in teaching and chamber music, I really try to curtail expectations and goals to a student's individual wants from music making, so that students can feel proportionally challenged and confident to the amount of time they'd like to put in. Also performing in concerts gives them goals to work for so I try to have my students to perform at some assisted living places and more several times a year and the more they perform usually the better they improve. It can be encouraging to see that others make mistakes too and that noone is perfect. I like students to learn how to read as soon as they can, but I honor the suzuki idea that it is good to learn to play the first few pieces by ear so listening does not get lost in learning to read. My teaching experience began when I took a course entitled String Pedagogy in college, where I was first introduced to the importance of an organized and effective pedagogical approach. Through that class, I was able to begin teaching private and group lessons to cellists in Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra's Intensive Community Program. I taught there weekly while taking classes in pedagogy for two years, and immediately was hooked on the challenging but rewarding experience of teaching music. Read More

I believe patience and versatility are very important, as each student learns a different way. I set goals for each lesson and try to guide the student during the lesson into achieving them. Sometimes the goals are achieved during the lesson, and sometimes while practicing on hteir own time. I don't believe in achieving "perfection", but rather developing a solid understanding and connection with the piece, which is accomplished through putting in hard work and effort.  Read More
