I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear. I have played cello for over 30 years. I've been teaching on and off since I graduated college, and consistently for the last ten years. I have performed and recorded with a variety of different groups in Southern California and Texas including the Claremont Symphony Orchestra in Claremont, California, the Point Loma Nazarene University Orchestra in San Diego, California, the Sinfonietta of Fort Worth in Texas, various independent solo artists and alternative bands. I started playing violin at the age of 4, and started teaching at 17. In 2003, I started playing viola, and in 2005, I started learning cello. In 2010, I graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Music degree with electives in Psychology. Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More

I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. I went on to get my Master's degree at Georgia State University and then returned to Louisiana State University for my final degree in Cello Performance. Read More
