American cellist Sarah is active as both a performer and pedagogue in New York City. She is a member of the innovative ensemble, The Orchestra Now, under the leadership of Leon Botstein. Prior to joining TON, Sarah served as principal cello of the Mannes Orchestra and the Mannes Opera Orchestra. She has also served as principal cello for the Arezzo Opera Festival (Arezzo, Italy), MACE (Mannes American Composers Ensemble), Apotheosis Opera (New York, NY), the Joffrey Ballet School (New York, NY), and has performed in Carnegie Halls Stern/Perelman Auditorium, Alice Tully Hall, Severance Hall, Civic Hall and Symphony Space, among many others. Teens (13-18) typically prefer to choose their own curriculum. They are mature enough to appreciate a classical background, and we study the great composers and all their famous pieces, which inform their understanding of music history as well. For adolescent beginner piano students I recommend 'John Thompson's Earliest Piano Course'. In this series Books I-III build a strong base upon which a student can specialize in different genre and styles graduating from book III. For adult students beginning I would suggest John Thompon's Adult (or Modern) Piano Course. The pacing of this book is far more accelerated and more in keeping with an adult pace to work with.
