I have always been passionate about the role music can play in the lives of people of any age, and have enjoyed numerous opportunities to be a part of the music education of many. My experience includes eleven years of private teaching combined with professional performance experience around the world. I have a pedagogical approach to teaching that I like to combine with the specific interests and needs of the student. Read More

I am a recent conservatory graduate with a sincere love for both classical music and teaching. I spent much of my childhood and adolescence learning cello and piano, went into electrical engineering out of high school, and ended up somewhere in the middle studying audio engineering and cello performance. During my college years, I was given the opportunity to share my passion for cello with some children from my church, and after discovering how much I loved teaching music, I knew I had to enroll in some pedagogy classes. I often try to get my students to hear what I hear in their playing by asking them questions. My goal is that the questions that I ask of them will be the questions they begin to ask themselves in their personal practice. Instead of telling a student directly that they may be playing a rhythm incorrectly or that they need to correct their bow technique, I ask them to reexamine that aspect of their playing and they often come up with the solution with some guidance. My venture R.E.M. (Relaxing Everyone thru Music) started as community service and blossomed into a sought-after entertainment service in the local area. From there, I received a scholarship from Hampton University. While in attendance, I was the principal cellist. I graduated from Hampton University with a BA Degree in Music Performance with honors. Upon graduation, I returned to the DC Metropolitan Area and has since joined the DC Strings Orchestra. Read More

Hello, and welcome to my studio! I love to make music with my students! I teach technique, theory and performance by using music that appeals to them. I always look for new ways to teach. My goal is to create a comfortable yet challenging learning environment in which every student is successful. My teaching style is enthusiastic and caring. I believe that the best way to encourage students to practice is to teach music that they want to play, to have them perform, to challenge them with beautiful music and to use technology to support practicing. Music enables levels of communication and understanding between human beings that we don't come close to in the rest of our society and interactions. From my love for chamber music and recognition of music and art as an integral vocabulary for expanding global dialogue, understanding, and peace, I look for performance, creation, recording, and collaboration in classical, tango, contemporary, world, popular, and interdisciplinary artistic projects. Some of my teachers have included Peter Howard, Jorja Fleezanis, Atar Arad, Tanya Carey, and Sally Gross (choreographer). Read More

In addition to having performed on thousands of stages around the world over the last 15 years, I have been teaching private lessons in percussion for the last 10 years. I have experience teaching individual and group lessons, in some cases with groups of over 50 students. In addition to lessons which address the practical concerns involved in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of drums, percussion, & cello, I teach lessons in structuring performances (aimed mostly at bands looking to take their live production to the next level), prepping for studio time, tailoring performances to their setting (studio, venues small & large, workshops), and techniques for learning large volumes of material quickly.
