I have been playing the cello for 13 years now and began giving lessons about five years ago. I have taught everyone from very young beginners, to adults picking up the instrument for the first time, to advanced students preparing to play in a college orchestra. I have prepared many students at all levels for the NYSSMA adjudication, resulting in high scores. However, I encourage students to work on not just their NYSSMA solo, but also to work on thoroughly understanding the skills, techniques, and musicality required of any piece at that level. I began teaching private cello lessons in 2009 during my masters program. I began my study of the Suzuki method in 2014 and am currently certified through Book 4 with plans to continue study. I believe in the emphasis of listening skills and believe they help my students to be sensitive musicians. My teaching style revolves around the interest of the student combined with my overall experience with one ultimate goal being that the student will develop the tools to teach themselves along the way. I like to use relevant recordings to play along with as well as simply recording the student and playing it back during the lesson. I have experience teaching individual and group lessons, in some cases with groups of over 50 students. In addition to lessons which address the practical concerns involved in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of drums, percussion, & cello, I teach lessons in structuring performances (aimed mostly at bands looking to take their live production to the next level), prepping for studio time, tailoring performances to their setting (studio, venues small & large, workshops), and techniques for learning large volumes of material quickly.
